Jennifer Gordon is an associate in the data, privacy and cybersecurity and intellectual property transactions practice groups at Ropes & Gray. Jennifer’s practice includes advising a broad range of clients on global data privacy, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence issues and intellectual property, data and technology matters. Her practice includes counseling, enforcement actions and strategic transactions, with a focus on mergers & acquisitions, commercial transactions, collaborations, carve-outs, spinoffs, technology and data licensing and transfers, outsourcing transactions, and joint ventures and alliances.

Jennifer has experience advising both public and private companies across a wide range of industries, including technology and software, internet and media, fintech, e-commerce, consumer brands, health care, higher education, private equity and other financial services.

Jennifer guides clients through the constantly changing privacy and cybersecurity regulatory landscape with experience on issues related to the creation and implementation of effective data governance programs while navigating the complex obligations and requirements of the comprehensive state privacy laws, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), as well as the primary federal regulatory regimes under the Gramm Leach Bliley Act (GLBA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), as well as under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other international laws. Jennifer has particularly deep experience in assisting clients in privacy and cybersecurity related enforcement actions by government agencies, including the NYDFS.

Prior to joining Ropes & Gray, Jennifer was an associate in the data security and privacy group and intellectual property, sourcing & technology group at another international law firm.

  • Represented a New York-based private equity firm in its multi-billion-dollar acquisition of a provider of higher education software solutions.*
  • Represented a U.S. water and wastewater utility company in its multi-billion-dollar sale of a provider of warranty protection programs and other home services.*
  • Advised financial services clients on a broad range of cybersecurity and privacy law matters, including alternative data, preparation of privacy notices, development of cybersecurity policies, and response to data breaches.*
