The British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (BVCA) has today released its latest Quarterly Review. The report highlights how the UK is leading European venture capital transactions, both in the scale of investments and funds raised.
While London remains the primary location of investment, Oxford and Cambridge continue to be important areas of investment. These cities form the "Golden Triangle" for UK investment, particularly in the areas of life sciences and healthcare.
Consistent with the findings of the report, we have also seen more US investors recognise the opportunities for science-based investment in the UK. The news will be welcomed by Boris Johnson, who has promised to boost science R&D post-Brexit. However, it will be interesting to see what funds are made available in the Chancellor's next Budget in March.
