Companies, universities, and governments are racing to produce vaccines and other treatments to address the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The production and distribution of these vaccines and treatments are impacted not just by regulatory frameworks imposed by the FDA, and similar organizations, but also by intellectual property rights and laws. This session will explore these issues, including: - How do we incentivize production of vaccines and therapeutics?
- How do we address compulsory licensing, without killing the incentive to produce?

- Digital Health in China
9:00-10:30AM
The Chinese government has been promoting the development of digital health to counter the uneven distribution of healthcare delivery across the country. Many pharmaceutical and medtech companies have been taking advantage of AI and big data to develop new products and services that suit this new paradigm. Nevertheless, the collection, use, and outbound transmission of health data by foreign companies is subject to government approval and even security review. Foreign companies must collaborate with Chinese entities in order to legitimately collect health data and intellectual property derived from the collaboration could be subject to joint ownership. In this session we will discuss the IP, data, and regulatory issues companies may encounter in their digital health initiatives. - What are the emerging technology trends in the life sciences sector?
- What regulatory requirements should companies be aware of when they launch digital health initiatives in China?
- Considerations for life science companies when leveraging the power of and protecting digital health technologies?
- Speakers:
- David Chen, Counsel, Ropes & Gray LLP
- Serina Tang, Associate Partner, McKinsey & Company
- Katherine Wang, Partner, Ropes & Gray LLP
- Sally Wang Liang, Vice President of Business Development, PepLib; General Counsel, The US-China Health Summit (Moderator)
