Anti-corruption Team Hosts Sixth “Cafecito” Virtual Roundtable Focused on Latin America and Covid-19

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ropes & Gray launched Cafecito con Ropes & Gray, a five-part series of casual, Chatham House Rule virtual roundtable discussions addressing anti-bribery and anti-corruption concerns for businesses operating in Latin America during the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the last year, the team has shared experiences and insights around some of the region’s toughest concerns, including: elevated bribery and fraud risks; ensuring compliance as usual without business as usual; sanctions and export considerations for suppliers of COVID-19 relief items; data privacy concerns; and trends in criminal tax enforcement. In addition to rolling out the Cafecito series, a team of attorneys worked diligently to track key developments in the region, including periodically tracking local media reports, public contracts, government reports, and global developments and synthesizing the data and information to identify trends in the Latin America region. 

On May 26, María González Calvet and Patrick Welsh hosted the sixth Cafecito con Ropes & Gray event examining the data their team has collected over the past year, the current enforcement landscape of Latin America, and forward-looking COVID-19 risk assessments companies should prepare for during post-pandemic recovery. The discussion was dynamic and interactive and it drew attendees from multinational corporations across many industries.
