The past decade has a seen a proliferation of text and app-based messaging, and the COVID-19 pandemic has only accelerated the trend of employees increasingly turning to digital means of communication for business-related matters in the global remote work environment. On July 15, litigation & enforcement partners Lisa Bebchick and María González Calvet and e-discovery counsel Shannon Capone Kirk hosted a webinar that discussed the legal landscape and practical guidance for minimizing regulatory risks associated with app-based communications.
Companies in regulated industries should be aware of the legal risks associated with employees using text and app-based messaging, including the risk of ignoring red flags that employees are using such means of communication. During the webinar, the attorneys covered key updates from U.S. regulators, such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, and the Department of Justice, as well as the U.K. Financial Conduct Authority. They also discussed the implications for businesses operating in Latin America in particular.
The webinar drew nearly 400 attendees from multinational corporations across a range of industries including financial services, life sciences, and technology and telecommunications.
