Tsuyoshi Imai, managing partner of Ropes & Gray’s Tokyo office, was named one of Japan’s Top 100 Lawyers for 2021 by The Asia Business Law Journal. A private equity attorney, Tsuyoshi regularly works with clients in transactions across Asia and Japan. Since the financial crisis of 2008, Tsuyoshi has served as lead counsel on transactions with an aggregate value of more than $60 billion, including four of the five largest private equity deals in Japan during that time period.
Speaking to The Asia Business Law Journal, Masa Suekane, managing director at Bain Capital in Tokyo, was quoted as saying: “I think Tsuyoshi is a great lawyer who has not only technical knowledge and negotiating power, but also good commercial judgement to assess the risk-and-return profile of legal or structuring-related issues in the big picture of deals.”
The list of Japan’s Top 100 Lawyers 2021 is based on research conducted and nominations received from in-house counsel based in Japan and elsewhere as well as Japan-focused partners at international law firms based outside the country.
