Five high school and college students from the west side of Chicago joined with Ropes & Gray attorneys in a “Legal Bootcamp” in partnership with BUILD (Broader Urban Involvement & Leadership Development), one of Chicago's leading youth-development organizations.
During the program, the students learned about what it’s like to be a lawyer and a paralegal while exploring various career paths and legal professions from attorneys to judges to commercial support professionals. Students observed a sentencing hearing in federal court and participated in two legal clinics that ended with a mock hearing.
Ropes & Gray’s Chicago attorneys devised and led an innovative curriculum with multiple components.
The bootcamp is a rewarding experience and requires dedication from various members of the Chicago office including litigation and enforcement partner Tim Farrell, litigation & enforcement counsel Renai Rodney, litigation & enforcement associates Philip Ehrlich, Kacie Brinkman, Catherine Conroy, and Catherine Steubing, asset management associates Elizabeth Madsen and Tim Parrington, health care associate Shanzeh Daudi, real estate associate Eddie Edward Thiele, and all summer associates.
The team also included legal services manager Mikeisha Walker, lateral recruiting manager LaTosha McElroy, legal services administrator Jessica Alexander, paralegals Margaret Michalowski, Obiageli Nwodoh, Sylvanna James, Ricardo Venegas, Henry Rogers, Maheeka Shah, legal executive assistant Shelli Dew, cash coordinator Sheena Harris, billing supervisor Sonia Tellez, and guest services representative Jaslyn Nieves.
