Global law firm Ropes & Gray announced today that Ryan Weinstein, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, has joined the firm’s 400-lawyer litigation & enforcement practice as counsel in Los Angeles.  Ryan brings 18 years of litigation experience with complex business disputes, government investigations, white-collar criminal cases, and appellate matters.

Ryan is an accomplished litigator and trial lawyer whose diverse practice focuses on complex, high-stakes civil litigation and white-collar criminal defense. Over his career, Ryan has defended and prosecuted individuals and corporations in a wide variety of criminal, civil and regulatory matters, spanning several industries, including health care, technology, sports and financial services.

Ryan spent seven years in private practice before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles, where he practiced for another seven years, conducting countless complex grand-jury investigations and serving as lead or co-lead counsel in roughly a dozen trials. Ryan also briefed and argued several appeals before the Ninth Circuit during his tenure. In 2019, Ryan returned to private practice and has since achieved extraordinary results for health care and private equity clients, among others.

“Ryan is a well-respected litigator and trial lawyer, with extensive experience that is highly relevant to our clients, making him a great fit for our global litigation & enforcement team,” said Laura Hoey, Ropes & Gray partner and co-head of the firm’s litigation & enforcement practice. “His hybrid practice, which draws on commercial and enforcement experience, is valuable to all our clients, and adds even more momentum to the firm’s growth in LA.”

“Clients come to Ropes & Gray for its premier litigators, deep industry expertise, and comprehensive capabilities. That’s what’s drawing me to the firm too,” said Ryan. “The firm’s experienced and collaborative lawyers, along with its unparalleled track record of delivering winning results and creative solutions to sophisticated clients, make this a great opportunity for me.”

In Los Angeles, Ryan joins partner Amy Jane Longo, a veteran of the SEC’s Los Angeles Regional Office, where she served as the head of the office’s trial unit.

“Ropes & Gray’s robust bench of litigators globally and on the West Coast will benefit greatly from Ryan’s arrival,” said Amy Longo. “His first chair trial experience across critical industries will be invaluable when advising our clients.”
