In Axios and Law360, health care associate Minal Caron discussed proposed changes by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Research Integrity (ORI) to federal regulations on research misconduct.
The proposed changes outlined by ORI include the imposition of tight deadlines on the preliminary assessment of allegations and giving ORI the authority to publicize the results of institutional investigations in certain circumstances.
If adopted, these and other proposed changes outlined in ORI’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking would have a significant impact on the manner in which academic medical centers, higher education organizations, and other recipients of federal funding manage the review and investigation of allegations of research misconduct.
