In an article for Anti-Corruption Report, R&G Insights Lab senior lab consultant and behavioral scientist Caitlin Handron tackles organizational compliance and culture, and provide a framework for companies to create effective and viable compliance programs.
“Compliance as an organizational function is ever-evolving,” said Caitlin. “A compliance program offers frameworks to create some order and to encourage or discourage certain behaviors.”
“Often, organizations do not realize they have a “culture problem” until it is too late: when multiple complaints have been filed, a scandal has erupted or their most promising talent has already left in droves,” she added. “The tacit assumption that organizational culture will somehow take care of itself is often justified by the many pressing demands on time and attention. Culture, however, may contain the sum and manifestations of multiple organizational risks, and therefore is worth attending to carefully.”
