In an article in The Washington Post, litigation & enforcement partner Brian Blais discussed the trial of U.S. Senator Bob Menendez and how the makeup of the jury could impact the outcome of the case.
The panel is one of the most highly educated that Brian has seen, and he’s intrigued by the fact that at least five members are married. “It’s going to be very interesting to see how the three female married jurors accept or don’t accept the defense of blaming the wife,” Brian said. “I think that’s going to be a challenging audience for that defense.”
Brian also said that U.S. District Judge Sidney H. Stein is known for being amiable even as he chides the lawyers in his courtroom. “He’s just even-keeled and measured, which is not true of all judges, certainly in the Southern District,” he said. “He will work the lawyers hard but will keep a smile on his face.”
