In an ESG Investor article, partner Michael Littenberg, public companies partner and global head of the firm's ESG, CSR and business and human rights practice, commented on the California climate disclosure laws scheduled for implementation in 2026.
One of the acts will require public and private companies doing business in California with annual revenue of over $1 billion to report greenhouse gas emissions, including Scope 3 emissions. Another act will require companies operating in California with annual revenue over $500 million to publicly disclose their climate-related financial risks and efforts to mitigate negative impacts.
“These acts are landmark legislation. Once in effect, they will be the most far-reaching climate disclosure requirements in the U.S.,” said Michael.
