In a chapter for Global Investigations Review, R&G Insights Lab director of behavioral insights Nitish Upadhyaya, partner and co-founder of R&G Insights Lab Amanda Raad, and associates Leah Dowd, Jeffrey Irwin and Karina Thomas explore the traditional and non-traditional approaches to compliance and how best to disrupt the cycle of misconduct.
“Traditional approaches to compliance are often rote corporate exercises, focused nearly exclusively on legal, regulatory and enforcement considerations. Yet, even well-resourced compliance programs are failing,” said the authors. A new approach, drawing on disciplines outside law and focused on human behavior and evidence-based decision-making, is required to break this cycle.&rdquo
“Taking a data-driven approach means both analyzing data that already exists within the organization and collecting new data to answer important questions about compliance performance, effectiveness and culture,” noted the authors. “This approach can have resounding effects on fostering a culture of compliance and ethics – and ultimately help to break the cycle of non-compliance that so many have struggled with for so long.”
