In Axios and the American Association for the Advancement of Science publication Science, health care counsel Minal Caron discussed changes in the final rule by the federal Office of Research Integrity (ORI) to federal regulations on research misconduct. The ORI decided to revise Part 93 of the rule to address the many policy developments and technological changes that have occurred since its last publication nearly 20 years ago, and to attempt to increase clarity, transparency, and efficiency of process.
Minal notes the new rules will let ORI be more aggressive in trying to correct the scientific record. “In addition to publicizing the results of its own, subsequent, investigation that relies on what an institution has found, ORI will now have the authority to reach out to a journal and recommend that it retract an article based on those findings,” said Minal.
