In a Law360 article, real estate partner Jack Creedon and counsel Pete Scherer discussed the evolving landscape of data center deals and the increasing need for cross-disciplinary legal expertise.
Jack highlighted the convergence of different legal disciplines in data center transactions, stating, “What you're going to see over the next several years is real estate lawyers having to get smarter on the energy side of the house, and the energy lawyers having to get smart on the real estate side of the house. Those two disciplines historically have been a little bit siloed, and now they're really coming together and colliding.”
Pete emphasized the complexity of data center deals due to their vertically integrated nature. “It's like the data center is the factory that these businesses use to produce an end product for their customers and services,” he explained. This integration requires a comprehensive understanding of various legal aspects beyond traditional real estate, making these transactions more intricate.
