In an International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) newsletter article, health care partner David Peloquin and data, privacy and cybersecurity associate Jake Barr examined the U.S. Department of Justice landmark rule that limited sensitive data transfers to certain “countries of concern,” focusing on the likely impact of the rule on health care and life sciences companies.
The authors discuss key exemptions to the DOJ rule that are relevant for life sciences companies and best practices to ensure compliance. The rule establishes data transfer restrictions regarding U.S. personal data, including de-identified and anonymized data, that health care and life sciences companies have not historically faced.
The article was co-authored by Legend Biotech Chief Privacy Officer and Assistant General Counsel Corey Dennis.
