Ropes & Gray was awarded “Pro Bono Program of the Year” by Chambers & Partners at the Chambers Diversity and Inclusion Awards, held at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco on June 6. The award, given to one firm in the United States each year, celebrates the firm dedicated to offering the most innovative and successful pro bono support to its local or global community.
In 2018, Ropes & Gray lawyers, paralegals and business professionals devoted approximately 160,000 hours to pro bono work, spanning a wide range of legal areas and geographies. Some of the firm’s work included: representing families at the Texas border, advocating for the wrongfully imprisoned, training prosecutors in Africa, fighting to protect LGBTQ rights, helping low-income communities gain access to capital and litigating on behalf of people in need.
Earlier in the week, the firm held an in-firm awards ceremony to celebrate its pro bono program in the United States and United Kingdom. Led by firm chair Brad Malt, the ceremony honored contributions from across the firm to advance social justice, advocate for equality, protect human rights and help others.
