Ropes & Gray Ranked Top 3 on the Financial Times’ List of Most Innovative Law Firms in North America

The Financial Times ranked Ropes & Gray #3 on its 2023 index of the most innovative law firms in North America. The index provides a holistic assessment of innovation considering several factors including workforce planning, data and technology, social responsibility, and financial growth.

One factor that has contributed to the firm’s growth is upscaled work in the private equity industry. “To be credible here, you have to go big,” Julie Jones told the Financial Times. She noted that law firms’ continued growth in the age of AI will hinge on certain skills: “people who tend to innovation or creativity—this is what we will praise.”

Ropes & Gray represented Chinese pharmaceutical company HUTCHMED Limited in a license agreement with Japan’s largest drugmaker, Takeda, for the development of the cancer treatment drug, fruquintinib. This team was led by life science licensing partners Marc Rubenstein and Amanda Austin, life sciences partner Katherine Wang, health care partner David Peloquin, and antitrust partner Mike McFalls.

Ropes & Gray represented Pfizer in the $11.6 billion cash purchase of Biohaven Pharmaceuticals. The deal secured Pfizer rights to the blockbuster migraine medication, Nurtec.
