Ropes & Gray was honored at the Legalweek Leaders in Tech Law Awards 2024 ceremony in New York City in the “ESG Enablement Through Technology” category.

The category recognizes successful initiatives that advance environmental, social or governance causes within an organization or for the broader good through the use of technology.

The firm was recognized for developing a unique online tool that provides up-to-the-minute updates on pro- and anti-ESG rules impacting investment managers. The firm’s dedicated State ESG Regulatory Tracker is a powerful online, interactive, searchable tool that enables asset managers to effectively and efficiently navigate the complex web of state and federal ESG laws specific to their industry, enhancing compliance outcomes and reducing attendant costs.

The site is widely used by the asset management industry as a key part of ongoing fund raising and compliance, and is also routinely used as a source of content and cited by leading media organizations. There is no other resource like it, whether by other law firms, consultants or data providers. Ropes & Gray was the first to focus on this emerging area, three years ago when the first state ESG bills were being proposed.

This initiative is led by Ropes & Gray partner Joshua Lichtenstein, head of the firm’s ERISA fiduciary practice, and partner Michael Littenberg, global chair of the firm’s ESG, CSR and business and human rights practice. The legal team also includes ERISA and benefits associates Reagan Haas, Jonathan Reinstein, and Alexa Voskerichian, and ESG, CSR and business and human rights associate Samantha Elliott, among others.
