The Daily Journal has named asset management partner Melissa Bender a 2019 Top Women Lawyer in California. The list honors 100 women lawyers practicing and barred in California.
Ms. Bender was recognized by the Daily Journal for her extensive work in advising hedge funds, as well as advising investors, private equity funds, sovereign wealth funds and private investment funds.
In the May 8 profile, Ms. Bender discusses being a woman in an industry often dominated by men and credits part of her success to Ropes & Gray’s culture of promoting women. “In the hedge funds [practice], eight out of nine partners at Ropes & Gray are women, including myself, which is remarkable,” Ms. Bender said. She added that her goal is to be a mentor and resource to junior attorneys, particularly women, in the same way she was mentored.
The list was compiled from hundreds of nominations submitted by attorneys statewide, with the honorees selected by editors based on the impact of their work.
