Mergermarket Japan named Ropes & Gray the Japan “Private Equity Legal Adviser of the Year” as part of its Japan M&A Awards. The awards recognize financial and legal advisory excellence in Japan-related deals and are based on analysis of Mergermarket’s league table data.
Ropes & Gray’s Tokyo-based private equity team has closed billions of dollars in complex deals for prominent private equity advisers operating in Japan and Asia. Most recently, the firm advised Bain Capital on its approximately $1.1 billion tender offer for all of the outstanding shares of Nichiigakkan, a Japan based company that operates nursing homes and provides hospital services. The same team also recently represented Bain Capital on the closing of its approximately $830 million tender offer for all of the outstanding shares of Showa Aircraft, a Japan based company that manufactures aircraft parts, and operates a hotel and golf courses.
Our Tokyo private equity team is renowned for its work. The team received The American Lawyer’s prestigious “Dealmakers of the Year” award in 2019 for its work guiding a Bain Capital-led consortium in its $18 billion buyout of Toshiba’s memory chip business, the largest-ever private equity backed buyout in Asia. Law360 has named Ropes & Gray’s global team “Private Equity Group of the Year” for several years, including in 2018 and 2019.
