Omar Asfar joined Ropes & Gray in 2023 as an associate in the tax group. Omar has broad experience of transactions and tax issues, including UK real estate acquisitions, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, tax authority audits and investigations, private client, employment, and fund structuring. He has worked with a wide range of clients, including government institutions, NHS Trusts, major housebuilders, financial institutions, private equity funds, multinational corporations, and high net worth individuals.

Experience

  • Represented Blue Earth Capital AG, the specialist  global impact investor, on its acquisition through its investment vehicles of partial interest in three funds across Africa and Asia from British International Investment (BII), the UK’s Development Finance Institution (DFI) and impact investor.
  • Advised Countryside Partnerships on their £112 million acquisition of real estate at Peel Hall. This is believed to be the highest land value residential property deal concluded in the North of England as of 2023.*
  • Advised Old Mutual plc on the managed separation of its £11 billion global operations into several independent businesses, including the demerger of its UK wealth management operations under Quilter plc.*
  • Advised a high net worth individual on an HMRC investigation into his tax affairs.*
  • Advised a multinational group of companies on the effect of UK anti-avoidance provisions on their group restructuring.*
  • Advised a private equity house on their billion-pound bid to acquire an international telecommunications business.*
