James Hallam is an associate in Ropes & Gray's private funds group in the New York office. James assists on a broad range of transactions including the representation of fund sponsors, private equity funds, hedge funds, and other private funds in connection with various fundraising, structural, operational, regulatory, and compliance matters. 

During law school, James was a research assistant for The Program in the Law and Economics of Capital Markets, a joint program of Columbia Law School and Columbia Business School, contributing to ongoing market efficiency research and regulatory proposals. He also interned in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
