Dan Stanco is a partner in the New York office and a member of Ropes & Gray’s policy committee, the firm’s global governing body, and previously served as global co-head of the real estate practice. Dan’s practice focuses on real estate finance, joint ventures and investments across all real estate asset classes. Throughout his career, Dan has represented a broad range of clients, including leading private equity funds, public mortgage REITs, institutional investors, developers, hedge funds, sovereign wealth funds, and family offices in complex U.S. and international real estate transactions, advising them on structured financings, joint ventures, co-investments, distressed acquisitions and restructurings, mortgage and mezzanine loans, intercreditor agreements, condominium developments, leasing and portfolio acquisitions. Dan is also one of the leading experts in the back-leverage, repurchase and loan-on-loan market for commercial real estate loans and CMBS, having negotiated over $50 billion of such financings for many of the leading real estate credit funds and mortgage REITs. Over his career, Dan has been involved in many notable real estate developments that have shaped the skylines of New York, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, Miami and other major cities across nearly every continent. In addition, Dan is actively involved in multiple charitable initiatives as a member of the board of directors of The Feed Foundation, counsel to a New York City charter school and former advisor to various foundations supported by the United Nations.

  • Representing many leading publicly traded mortgage REITs and private real estate debt funds sponsored by Acore, Apollo, Ares, Bain, BDT&MSD, Blackstone, BrightSpire, Brookfield, Canyon Partners, Castlelake, Dwight Capital, Goldman Sachs, Kayne Anderson, KKR, KSL, Mack, Madison, Oaktree, Oxford Properties, PCCP, PIMCO, and TPG, among many others, in negotiating and closing over $50 billion in master repurchase facilities, note-on-note financings and secured credit facilities across from nearly every major bank to finance commercial real estate loans secured by real estate in the North America, Europe and Australia.
  • Represented a group of affiliated publicly traded REITs in a series of acquisitions of commercial, medical and government office buildings in multiple U.S. markets.
  • Represented a major New York-based investment fund in the creation of joint ventures with various regional operating partners and the subsequent acquisition and financing of multiple office, hotel and resort properties and distressed loan purchases in major markets throughout the United States.
  • Represented multiple institutional investors in joint ventures, acquisitions, developments and financings of several condominium developments in New York City.
  • Represented an Italian private equity fund in its joint venture investments in multiple commercial, mixed use and multifamily properties and ground-up condominium developments throughout New York City and the Midwest.
