A Feb. 20 article in Pensions & Investments reported on the upcoming margin rules for uncleared derivatives, which are expected to come into force starting on March 1. The article notes that while the CFTC announced it would delay its enforcement of the variation margin rules until Sept. 1 (subject to a number of conditions), the delay is not likely to have a significant impact on the market given that other regulators have not announced similar delays. While there might be some optimism among market participants that other regulators will follow the CFTC's lead, “until we hear that they will, it's full steam ahead” on compliance, stated hedge funds counsel Molly Moore (Washington D.C.) in the article.
