In an article published on Oct. 22, BoardIQ reports that a recent notice from the SEC has revived the issue of data verification in mutual fund disclosures. The article includes insights from asset management partner Michael Doherty (New York) regarding the criticality of business owners understanding how disclosures are created and corrected.
“Since the Janus ruling, boards receive more information about how disclosures are created…and have specifically documented their attention to the matter in case it ever becomes an issue,” Mr. Doherty says. “If those details are fuzzy or if it’s unclear which function should have caught the issue, that may be an area for directors to follow up on.”
